We know how frustrating it can be when you move into your new home and you have no idea what day garbage pick up is! Especially after a move, generally we end up with a ton of cardboard and extra garbage that we normally wouldn’t accumulate any other time.
We encourage you to download an app called Recycle Coach. This app allows you to type in your address and it will automatically show you what day garbage pickup is in your area! No need to ever miss another garbage day! Simple, Easy, and User Friendly! This app will answer all your questions!
Here are some tips and tricks to disposing of garbage and recycling properly without hassle! These are straight from the City of London Website and can be found at

- To help collect your garbage and recycling from your home, please review the curbside garbage requirements:
- Set your garbage at the curbside by 7 a.m., but no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before.
- Use standard plastic garbage bags or metal or plastic cans.
- One container is equal to one garbage can or one bag of garbage.
- Maximum weight for a container is 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Minimum size of a can is 30 litres (7 Imperial gallons), maximum size of a can is 125 litres (28 Imperial gallons).
- Minimum size of a bag is 65 cm by 90 cm. Maximum size of a bag is 80 cm by 125 cm.
- Do not set out individual grocery or kitchen garbage bags, instead place in a larger bag or garbage can.
- Place bags and cans on level ground and near the curb.
- Do not place garbage bags on top of garbage cans. Contents of garbage cans must not extend above the rim of cans.
- Garbage can lids must easily detach from garbage cans - free of hinges, ropes, and bungee cords.
Recycling Guidelines
Again provided by the City of London website, or you can refer to your recycle coach app! This app will answer all your questions regarding recycling and garbage collection.
Blue box recycling
- Use at least two blue boxes for curbside recycling, and keep paper and containers (plastic, metal, glass, laminated cups and cartons) separated.
- To ensure your recyclables are collected, please follow the curbside recycling requirements:
- Place recyclables at the curbside by 7 a.m., but no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before collection day.
- Empty and rinse containers.
- Flatten boxes and tie cardboard into bundles no larger than 75 cm X 75 cm X 20 cm (30" X 30" X 8").
- Place recyclables 1.5 m (5 feet) from your garbage, if possible.
- The maximum weight of recycling containers is 18 kilograms (40 lbs).
- The maximum size of recycling containers is 95 litres.
- There is no limit to the number of blue boxes you can put out each collection.

Pet Identification: If you have pets, update their identification information, including microchip details and tags, with your new address. Forwarding Mail: Consider setting up mail forwarding with the postal service for a limited period to ensure you receive any mail sent to your old address. Make sure to complete this checklist well in advance of your move to minimize disruptions and ensure that you receive important mail and information at your new address.
